'Tis The Season

This year we've had a busy sporting season with football, soccer, and more soccer.

Both Gavin and Emily wanted to play soccer this year. Not surprisingly, they are both pretty good. They both have abundant energy and really go after the ball. Sometimes a little too much in Gavin's case. We were always reminding him to not push the other players (even his own teammates). He would run with his arms out so that I guess no one would get in his way. Although he really loves soccer, I think football might be his preferred sport in the future.

Emily is also really good at soccer. This is her 2ND year playing (although she didn't play last year because she played baseball instead). So far, she always plays forward and works really hard when she's on the field. She's not afraid of the ball (or much of anything for that matter). Overall, I think that sports are a really good outlet for her.

As far as Spencer, this is his 3rd year playing football (although he took last year off). His position is offensive tackle and defensive end. He has some really great coaches this year. In fact, this is the first year that he hasn't complained about all of the practices and commitment that it takes to play football. It's nice to see him learning and enjoying himself at the same time.

And then there is Mr. Ethan. It's kind of sad to see how much he wants to be a part of all of the sporting events. He loves to kick the ball and to play catch. He also has two football jersey shirts that he loves to wear. I know that he looks up to his older siblings and wants to do the same things that they do. I hope that he doesn't feel too left out when he gets older. We're going to have to find a sport that he enjoys that he will be able to physically handle. Golf maybe?

Anyway, here are a few pictures of their uniforms and games.

Oops, My Bad

So, I guess Tim has had a few complaints that I didn't show "enough bike" on my recent post about his "new toy". So, for all of you who want to see the bike (instead of the cute kids on top), these pictures are for you.

Gavin's New Trick

The fascinating part about this trick is that is 100% self taught (remember, he's only 4)! He went in the middle of the room last week and just went up. (He started by doing on my couch which would drive me crazy when I would have to constantly tell him to "sit on the couch the right way".) He does it all the time now and can hold the position for about 30 seconds or so. Gavin is such a physically strong kid, but I have to admit, I didn't expect this one.

Tim's New Toy

Well, Tim FINALLY got a motorcycle. He's been wanting one for years (and I have been resisting for years). He works SO hard for our family and I finally decided to to succumb to the inevitable. However, I'm not naive. I only gave my blessing after he promised to get life insurance. Is that bad?

We Got the Call

So it seems that this cute little man will be having his 3rd surgery (the Fontan) on Tuesday, November 3rd. Although we obviously new it was coming, just having a date starts bringing on the tears and anxiety.
I am relived that it will happen after the kids' soccer and football seasons are over. I was worried about how to get 3 different kids to 3 different places while we were in the hospital. Also, as superficial as it sounds, it also doesn't hurt that it will be after Halloween. I already bought his costume and I was really hoping that he would be able to enjoy the festivities this year. All in all, none of those things really matter, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier for the older kids when they don't have to give up as much.
Anyway, between now and then, we will keep on feeding Ethan anything that he will eat and hopefully he can gain a pound or two before November. Keep us in your prayers.

The Wagon

The wagon was a hit. So much so, that Gavin asked Tim why we didn't get one sooner. Because according to him, he's "been alive for lots of years". Both Gavin and Ethan have been having a blast going on rides through the neighborhood with Spencer or Emily pulling them around. I guess we should have bought one sooner.
